When I saw this title, I was intrigued. I thought “here we go, once again a case of selective sex discrimination in some other part of the world where patriarchy rules”.  As if we did not already have enough daily news on female genital mutilation (FGM), female foeticide, girl-child malnutrition and more. But, boy (pun intended), was I wrong.

This is not some place in Africa or Asia but in the good ol’ USA. I could not even imagine someone in America talking about gender preferences when they were expecting God’s most precious gift – a child. While the writer Amy Wilson puts forth some reasons for not wanting a girl, it still left me shaking my head and wondering how can people even think on these lines.  Here is the rant if you want to read it – http://edition.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/personal/04/30/o.why.didnt.want.girl/index.html
